Dealing with the impasse between the CRTC and CBC: FRPC suggests a hearing to review the CRTC’s policy for public broadcasting – op ed by Chair of FRPC’s Board of Directors

On August 31, 2020 the Ottawa Citizen published an opinion by Al MacKay, Chair of FRPC’s Board of Directors, about the current impasse between the CRTC and CBC: the CRTC wants to proceed with and hear the applications CBC filed last fall, while CBC recently told the Commission that it could not provide any updates to its pre-Covid 19 financial and programming plans until 2022 at the earliest.

The Forum’s suggestion?: the CRTC should use the January 2021 hearing now scheduled to consider CBC’s licensing applications, to develop a policy for Canadian public broadcasting.
